Follow my Leader

Walk behind the leader 
Whatever else you do,
Get behind a leader
And they will get you through,
If you forge ahead, then
You might mistake the way;
But stick behind your leader
And they will save the day.
Pushing past the leader?
It's really not polite
To charge into the distance
And disappear from sight.
'Lost Ponds' are enchanting
But being lost is not -
So stay behind your leader
And never lose the plot.
Let the leader lead, or
The walks not worth your while;
All on you own - a storm breaks -
You're stuck astride a stile
(Ouch)
Can't see any signposts
The sun is going down...
Perhaps you need a leader
To take you back to town?
The leader plans a recce
Through forest, field or dell.
Don't waste that preparation
By falling down a well!
Paths will twist and wander
Wherever we may roam;
Just keep behind your leader
And they will guide you home.
